Shop Tour (Including the old days)

Back in the mid '60s, Tommy Ivo made a promotional arrangement with
Buick that involved converting his 4 engine dragster to resemble their
station wagon with a Riviera front end. It required a considerable
amount of "morphing" to accommodate the already existing layout of
the chassis. The rear quarters were larger than stock while everything
had to be scaled down.
The factory sent me every exterior
trim part, bumpers, lights you name
it. Everything but sheet metal and glass. None of which we could use. We
built everything. Tried to return the stock parts, but Buick didn't want
any part of it. Suggest I sell it to the local dealer. I tried to give
it to the dealer just to get it out of my shop, they refused it and
thanked me by sending the police. They thought I was trying to sell hot
parts! I offered it to the police suggesting they might swap it for
donuts. Finally hauled it to the dump.
These pictures are apparently all
I have left from perhaps a
hundred. The young man on my right is John Jones, a nice kid who wanted
to learn, but moved on to Crower Cams down
the road where they had insurance. The car still exists and last I saw
it was in the NHRA museum in Pomona, Ca.
That was the good old days -- now for the new shop...
